Bridal, Prom, Special Occasions Fair Saturday

BECKLEY — The snow won’t stop the show.

Vendors, models, organizers and brides-to-be will gather Saturday at the Tamarack Conference Center in Beckley for the 11th annual Bridal, Prom and Special Occasions Fair.

Brides who registered will convene in the morning for a bridal brunch, where they will glean tips on catering and reception planning.

Vendors have set up booths built around this year’s theme, “Isn’t She Lovely?” From noon to 4 p.m. everyone is invited to visit the show and browse among booths featuring information on everything from photographing a wedding to managing the floral arrangement, catering and honeymoon planning details.

“This has been an extremely important event every year,” said Chuck Jessup, advertising director of The Register-Herald, one of the show’s four sponsors. “This provides a day where brides can come and shop and pull together all the details for planning a wedding. It’s convenient. It’s a fun day, and we get great feedback every year.”

During back-to-back fashion shows at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m., Harvey’s Fashions and Bridals brings to the runway the 2010 season of bridal, prom and special occasions wear.

“The theater is always packed both times,” Tom Harvey said. “One of the reasons we enjoy helping to sponsor the bridal show each year is that we get to meet a lot of brides and give them some ideas about not only the fashions but some of the ways they can make sure they get exactly the right gown for their wedding or special occasion.”

Sponsors Belk and Flowers by Nancy lend their talents with housewares and floral options.

Registered brides have an opportunity to compete for prizes during the Bridal Survivor game show provided by Jukebox Entertainment. The show concludes with a drawing for a grand prize winner.

Steve and Gayle Gregory, owners of Jukebox Entertainment, which provides the equipment for the Bridal Survivor competition, said they enjoy having a booth where they can meet brides face to face.

“It’s exciting to have a chance to talk with brides and their mothers and tell them what we have to offer,” Steve said. “We emcee the event so they can have a stress-free day. We not only provide the entertainment, but we announce events and even the music that’s coming up so people can be at the right place at the right time to enjoy all the festivities.”

John Eye’s Big Sandy Superstore in Beckley has provided a bedroom suite valued at almost $1,000 as the grand prize.

Misty Windsor, operations manager for the store, said offering the prize is their way of helping a couple get off to a good start.

“This is a suite of furniture to get them started in their new home and in their new life together,” Windsor said. “It’s our way of wishing them the very best in their lives ahead.”

“We hope lots of people come out and join us. It’s a beautiful show, and we can also talk with brides and let them know what we have to offer in terms of a reception site or even a place for the wedding,” said April Taylor, conference sales director for the Tamarack Conference Center, also a show sponsor. “The booths are all so attractive, and with the fashion shows and the Bridal Brunch, the show provides something of special interest for everyone.”
