One killed, one injured in wreck, police say

From Staff Reports

A single-vehicle accident early Wednesday in Fayetteville claimed the life of one Fayetteville man and injured another, city police reported.

Matthew R. Mayfield, 32, was dead at the scene of the accident, which was reported to Fayette County’s Emergency Operations Center just before 5 a.m.

James K. Eads, 33, was flown to Charleston Area Medical Center and was in stable condition later Wednesday.

Patrolman M.B. Milam reportedly found a two-door 1995 GMC Jimmy with heavy damage. The two victims are thought to have been ejected from the vehicle.

According to an EOC spokesman, the accident occurred near Sherry’s Beer City on W.Va. 16.

The accident is being investigated by Milam, who was assisted at the scene by Fayetteville firefighters and Fayette County sheriff’s deputies.
