Raleigh General staff presents proceeds from fall fundraiser campaign

From staff reports
For The Register-Herald

The United Way of Southern West Virginia received an early Christmas gift from Raleigh General Hospital Wednesday.

Karen Bowling, CEO of Raleigh General, presented the hospital’s annual fall campaign check for $53,460 to United Way Executive Director Margaret O’Neal.

The donation, the largest in hospital history, was a combination of employee contributions, which totaled more than $21,000, which the hospital matched. The RGH medical staff contributed $3,725, $1,725 of which came from medical staff members who opted to have the money normally spent on their annual individual holiday gift deferred to the United Way. The hospital’s Senior Friends program donated another $6,641.

“Raleigh General Hospital has a long and proud tradition of supporting the United Way of Southern West Virginia and I couldn’t be prouder of our entire team,” Bowling said. “At a time when the economy has been sluggish, our employees dug deep and exceeded their goal. Our medical staff and Senior Friends also did an outstanding job of supporting this very important local charitable organization.”
