New edition of W.Va. South just in time for the holidays

Just in time for Thanksgiving, the December-January issue of West Virginia South is on its way to a newsstand near you.

Featuring holiday dessert recipes and features on Christmas gifts, Christmas tree farms and winter activities, the latest issue is sure to put people in the spirit of the season.

Readers will also be entertained by two great pieces of fiction, as well as articles on the Beckley-based West Virginia Dance Company, Mountain Lake, Va., Princeton’s Chuck Mathena Center and a first-hand account from a Pocahontas County Roadkill Cookoff judge.

This West Virginia South also includes stories about some of the many folks who make southern West Virginia special, such as a jewelry maker from Wyoming and Raleigh counties, a famous artist originally from Kanawha County and a woman who runs a no-kill animal shelter in Greenbrier County.

The magazine’s regular extras — a history quiz, word search, society page and jam-packed calendar of events — plus the work of award-winning photographers, will likely catch the eye of the most discerning page-flippers.

“As always, we’ve done our best to include something for everyone in our local publication,” WVS Editor Audrey Stanton said. “And for the last two months, we’ve noticed a significant increase in calls from readers who want to share subscriptions with friends and family as Christmas gifts. That’s a wonderful idea, especially for area residents who may have moved out of state and want an entertaining way to learn about the good news from back home.”

A year’s subscription to West Virginia South is $23.76, almost a dollar less per issue than the newsstand price. Call 1-800-950-0250 to order, or visit www.wvsouth.com to subscribe online or find a retail location near you. Photos and a content list from the new issue will be posted there before month’s end, so be sure to check for updates.
