One dead, one injured in Nicholas shooting

— A woman is dead and a man was airlifted to a Charleston hospital after a double shooting Wednesday in Nicholas County, State Police said.
At 1:30 p.m., troopers responded to a shooting along W.Va. 82 near Birch River, Capt. S.F. Van Meter said. Elizabeth Spinks, no age available, was found dead when troopers arrived on the scene. She was apparently killed by a gunshot.
Daren Spinks, no age available, was found shot in the leg, Van Meter said. He was airlifted to Charleston Area Medical Center, where he was listed as under evaluation Wednesday night.
While the two were related, Van Meter was not sure of the exact relationship between Elizabeth and Daren Spinks.
Other details were not immediately available.
Dispatchers from the Nicholas County Emergency Operations Center said the shooting took place at a residence near Birch River Elementary School.
The shooting remains under investigation by Sgt. Ron Lilly of the Summersville detachment, Van Meter said. Lilly is being assisted by troopers from the Summersville and Richwood detachments, plus the Troop 6 Crime Scene Team.
