School recognized; improvement project approved, heads to SBA

Stanaford Elementary School was recognized during Tuesday’s Raleigh County Board of Education meeting for recently being named a West Virginia School of Excellence.
“We’re very proud of you,” board president Richard Snuffer told school representatives, who received a plaque. “Keep up the good job.”
Also Tuesday, board members approved the county’s major improvement project submission which goes to the state School Board Authority.
The request is for funding to install air conditioning in the gymnasium at Woodrow Wilson High School.
The 2009 high school graduation dates were approved and are as follows:
Shady Spring High School, May 29 at 6 p.m.
Independence High School, May 30 at 10 a.m.
Liberty High School, May 30 at 1:30 p.m.
Woodrow Wilson High School, May 30 at 5 p.m.
All the commencements will be held at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
