A Beckley Fire Department engine was hit by a car during Saturday morning’s Beckley Half Marathon, according to fire officials.
“The driver told us the sun was in his eyes,” firefighter Adam Shrewsberry said.
Shrewsberry said he was directing traffic when the Oldsmobile hit the back of the fire truck.
“The accident scraped the front of the right back tailboard of the truck,” he said.
Shrewsberry said the car had to be towed from the scene because it had a flat tire and the front fender was dented back to the driver’s door.
The name of the driver was not released and no citations were immediately issued, Shrewsberry added.
The Beckley Police Department was investigating the accident.
