Mountain State University to host fall mini carnival Friday

Partnering with several businesses from the area, Mountain State University is hosting a fall mini carnival from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the John W. Eye Center on South Kanawha Street.

The event is free of charge and encourages parents, children, employees of MSU and the students to join in on the festivities.

Not only are the local businesses helping with the event, but members of several clubs and fraternities from MSU are donating their time to help the community get involved.

There will be a variety of games and activities for children to participate in such as a beanbag toss, a performance by Funny Bones the Clown, a limbo contest, an X-Box competition and a candy bar dig sponsored by the forensics department. While the children enjoy the fun and games, parents will be treated to massages from MSU nursing students.

The mini carnival will also offer all the traditional carnival snacks such as corn dogs, cotton candy and popcorn.

“This is our way of giving back to the community and we would like everyone to come, have some fun and bring the community and MSU closer,” said Mandy Wriston, director of student affairs.

In addition to hosting the mini carnival, MSU will be celebrating its homecoming month Sept. 29 to Nov. 3.

The theme for the month is “Paint the Town Blue and White.”

MSU will be hosting a variety of activities and events throughout the month, such as a door decorating contest in Hogan Hall, face painting in the Cougar Den, discounted items in the Cougar Den and numerous other functions.

“We are excited and pumped up about the carnival and homecoming,” student Ben Love said.

The main event during homecoming will feature the election of a king and queen who will be crowned during the MSU vs. West Virginia Wesleyan basketball game on Nov. 3.

A homecoming dance will follow the game.

Students and faculty will also be participating in numerous other functions over the course of the next few months. Tailgate trick-or-treat, the volunteer fair and pillow talk are all part of the events schedule.
