Hinton train wreck

September 23, 2008 10:17 pm

Coal spilled from overturned railroad cars covers a hillside near Hinton early Tuesday morning. According to the Summers County Emergency Operations Center, the rear cars of a CSX train hauling coal derailed around 6:30 a.m., near Willow Wood Road. Several tons of coal spilled from the cars, but no hazardous materials leaked in the accident. The derailment temporarily closed Pawley’s Creek Road, but a portion of it reopened within 30 minutes of the wreck. The Register-Herald attempted to contact a CSX spokesperson Tuesday, but phone calls were not returned.
