Inmate charged with fleeing work detail among indictments

One of three Mount Olive Correctional Complex inmates who eluded police for 12 days after allegedly escaping from a minimum-security camp work detail in June and two men accused of child abuse were among those indicted by a Raleigh County grand jury, the prosecutor’s office said Tuesday.

Robert John Cole, 28, of Ohio County, was found hiding in a mobile home near Kincaid in Fayette County nearly two weeks after he and two other inmates walked away from their work crew when it stopped for lunch at the Division of Highways office in Beckley

Cole, who is serving one to 15 years for the manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance, is now charged with felony escape and conspiracy.

Also indicted was Daniel Wayne McKinney, 26, of Crab Orchard, who was arrested in July for allegedly abusing his 3-month-old daughter, causing “numerous” broken bones and other injuries.

McKinney is charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, three counts each of malicious wounding, child neglect resulting in serious bodily injury, gross child neglect and presentation of false information regarding child’s injury.

Michael Scott Linkous, 20, of Coal City, was indicted for allegedly burning a 2-year-old girl with hot water.

The child, whose mother was dating Linkous, sustained “submersion” burns on her feet and back that required treatment at a Cincinnati burn unit.

Linkous is charged with child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, malicious wounding, child neglect causing serious bodily injury, gross child neglect causing serious bodily injury and providing false information regarding child’s injury.
