Bridal Fair winner counts down days

By Bev Davis
Register-Herald senior editor

With her wedding date just days away, Dusty Johnson is busy with all those last-minute details that make for a stunning wedding.

“It does get overwhelming at times,” said the winner of the 2008 Bridal, Prom and Special Occasions Fair at the Tamarack Conference Center.

Winning the grand prize, however, gave her 1,000 fewer reasons to be stressed, the Sissonville resident said.

“Planning a wedding can be so expensive, and every little bit helps. The $1,000 from Party King, All Seasons Floral and Lite Side has gone a long way to provide things for my wedding,” Johnson said. “Party King owners Brian and Bridget Adkins and Lite Side manager Cathy Johnson have all been so great to help me with my planning. They’ve helped me in person, by e-mail and by phone and have provided lots of advice and tips for making things go more smoothly.”

Johnson was chosen during the bridal brunch to participate in Battle for the Brides, one of the most popular events at the annual bridal fair. During the final drawing, she was the lucky grand prize winner.

As part of the prize package, Johnson will have a five-tiered wedding cake from Lite Side. All her boutonnieres and corsages will be provided by All Seasons Floral. Party King will furnish all her rentals, ranging from the columns on the stage to a kneeling bench she and David Hurley will use during their wedding ceremony.

“I was especially fortunate because Party King has a location in Charleston which made it much more convenient for me to shop there and work with them on picking the items for my wedding,” Johnson said.

She and John David Hurley of Sissonville will be married at 4:30 p.m. next Saturday at Allen’s Fork Community Church in Sissonville. A reception will follow at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in South Charleston.

The former Laura Diem of Beckley took home a $500 prize provided by Lite Side, Party King and All Seasons Floral. She and Russ Bond of Crab Orchard were married June 21 at Mount Zion’s Light Baptist Church in Ronceverte.
