After an extensive search, Nicholas County authorities say a man reported missing last week was found by relatives in an abandoned cabin.
Relatives reported Curtis Cogar, 40, of Tioga, missing Aug. 8, Chief Deputy Wayne Plummer of the Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department said. He had left his home on his own, reportedly threatening to kill himself. He took a kitchen knife and disappeared into a wooded area.
During the time Cogar was missing, Plummer said, personnel from the sheriff’s department, State Police, National Guard, volunteer search teams and several fire departments searched for Cogar. Two helicopter flights were taken to try to find him.
Thursday night, a neighbor found Cogar in an abandoned cabin in the same area where he disappeared, Plummer said.
Relatives took Cogar to Summersville Memorial Hospital, where he was treated for dehydration and malnourishment, Plummer said.
