Authorities continue to investigate a fire that gutted a two-story house in Gauley Bridge Monday night.
Tony Domingo, assistant state fire marshal, said Friday he has forwarded samples from the house to a lab for testing. Results should take about two weeks.
Domingo said the fire’s origin is still of an undetermined nature.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department assisted the fire marshal’s office in its investigation several days this week.
According to Sheriff Bill Laird, emergency officials received notification of the fire on Thomas Street at around 10:30 p.m.
The house was being rented by Samantha Holbrook, who was not home at the time of the fire, said Laird.
Deputy W.K. Willis of the sheriff’s department and the Gauley Bridge Police Department have also aided in the investigation.
