Ignite Youth Ministries, in co-operation with other sponsors, will host a benefit concert for soldiers Saturday at Soldiers Memorial Theatre on South Kanawha Street in Beckley. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music begins at 6:30.
Activities provided during the concert are free giveaways, music and food provided by Chick-fil-A. There will also be T-shirts for sale at the venue. Bands playing at the event include Waking Providence, Arrival of Ezra and Fight of Faith.
The cost of a ticket is $6 with all proceeds going to an adopted platoon stationed in Iraq.
Ignite Youth Ministries has been in operation since 2006.
When asked why the concert is important, Shawn McGuire, co-founder of IYM, answered, “I think the soldier concert is important because we need to remember and support our troops at all times, whether we are at war or not.”
IYM is a nonprofit organization that is funded through donations and area churches. Other sponsors of the event include Mabscott Fire Department, All-State Insurance, Home Furniture, By His Grace Christian Bookstore, Staples and SMT.
