Ronceverte goes to a 4-day week

The City of Ronceverte is switching to a four-day work week to help offset the high fuel costs of employees, officials said Wednesday.

Currently, city hall is open five days a week from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. But starting Aug. 11, city hall will be open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and closed on Fridays, said Mayor Gail White.

“That’s so people will not have to drive to work that extra day and it also helps to cut down on expenses at the office,” White said Wednesday. “But mostly it’s the cost of fuel for our employees.”

White said the city’s police force will not be affected by the new hours.

“We will need someone at the water and sewer plant as well on Fridays,” she said.

White said city hall will open earlier and close later so city employees will continue to work 40 hours a week.

“This will give citizens more time in the morning and evening to do their business with city hall,” White said. “These new hours are not set in stone, but we want to try this during this gas crunch.”

City officials said trash pick up days will also be affected.
