A Burning Rock Off-Road Park ranger sustained injuries not believed to be life-threatening when his ATV went over a hillside Saturday, authorities said.
Around 2 p.m., the ranger’s ATV went about 15 feet downhill between trails 17 and 14, said deputy assistant chief Chuck Sprouse of the Sophia Area Volunteer Fire Department. This trail’s intersection is located near McAlpin.
The man was taken from the accident scene in one of Rhodell VFD’s utility vehicles to an ambulance, then to Raleigh General Hospital, Sprouse said. The ranger’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.
Burning Rock, which spans nearly 8,000 acres near Sophia, opened to the public July 4.
