Fayette man indicted on federal court charges

Michelle James
Register-Herald Reporter

A Fayette County man accused of threatening to blow up the Mount Hope Post office was indicted on six counts in federal court Wednesday.

George William Bumm III, 46, of Mount Hope, is charged with using the telephone — an instrument of interstate commerce — to threaten to destroy the post office by means of an explosive on June 12.

Bumm is also charged with four counts of making false statements when purchasing firearms as he reportedly did not tell Beckley Pawn and Gun he was addicted to a controlled substance. Also, Bumm is charged with owning four firearms while he was an unlawful user of and addicted to a controlled substance.

If convicted, Bumm could receive up to 25 years in prison, a $750,000 fine and nine years of supervised release.
