Mullens attorney may represent district in Electoral College

Mullens attorney Rick Staton has been selected to represent the 3rd Congressional District in the Electoral College following the general election in November.

“I am very honored to represent our congressional district in the Electoral College. It’s something that I didn’t imagine happening,” the former House of Delegates member said. “I look forward to this special event and being a part of history.”

Staton is also the Democratic nominee for prosecuting attorney of Wyoming County after defeating two challengers in the May primary. He has been an assistant prosecutor for several years.

“Staton’s selection didn’t really surprise me,” said David Thompson, longtime chairman of the Wyoming County Democratic Executive Committee. “He has been a dedicated public servant for many years and a loyal Democrat. It’s exciting and should make every Wyoming countian proud that one of their own was chosen for this nationally important role in the upcoming election.”

The selection process was part of the state Democratic Convention in Charleston last month. More than 1,300 West Virginia delegates attended and the 3rd District caucus was attended by several hundred from counties throughout southern West Virginia.

Staton was chosen by open ballot from among several other nominees from counties throughout the district. He will potentially cast his vote for the Democratic nominee for president following the November general election.

The Democratic National Convention is set for next month in Denver.
