Woman dies in wreck

Police say a Raleigh County woman was killed in a Saturday morning motorcycle accident.

Veronica Howerton, 54, of Midway, died at the scene on Robert C. Byrd Drive in Crab Orchard, said Cpl. W.J. Crist of the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Department.

At 10:15 a.m. Saturday, the sheriff’s department responded to the intersection of Byrd Drive and Fearn Street, near the Crab Orchard Exxon, Crist said. Howerton was the lone rider on a 2008 Harley-Davidson traveling north on Byrd Drive. Donnie Price, 54, also of Midway, had been driving a 2003 GMC Sierra pickup truck south on the highway.

Price was in the center turn lane and crashed into Howerton’s motorcycle as she was going past the intersection’s traffic light, Crist said.

The accident remains under investigation by Cpl. T.L. Miles, and she is being assisted by Crist and Deputy J.L. Redden, Crist said.
