A Fayetteville firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation after an Oak Ridge fire heavily damaged part of a house, authorities said.
At 5:53 p.m. last Thursday, the Fayetteville Fire Department responded to the fire along W.Va. 16, just outside Fayetteville, said Meredith Gray, public information officer. The house was described as a two-story, single-family dwelling with an attached garage. An adult man was at home at the time, and he called 911.
When firefighters arrived, the garage was fully engulfed, and the garage roof had already collapsed, Gray said. The fire spread to the house’s attic, kitchen and living room before it was extinguished.
The garage, along with a boat and truck inside, was a total loss, Gray said. However, the house sustained only moderate smoke and water damage. A neighboring house also sustained minor damage to its exterior. W.Va. 16 was temporarily closed.
One Fayetteville firefighter was taken to Plateau Medical Center, then treated and released, Gray said.
The Oak Hill Fire Department and Fayette County Sheriff’s Department also responded, Gray said.
That same day, the Fayetteville Fire Department responded to a 3:10 p.m. house fire on Virginia Street, Gray said. Occupants of the single-story, single-family dwelling were not home when the fire started.
The fire began in the laundry room and spread to the attic, Gray said. The fire was contained to these two areas, but the entire house sustained moderate smoke and minor water damage.
No injuries were reported in this fire, Gray said. The Oak Hill Fire and Fayetteville Police departments responded.
Between the two fires, Fayetteville firefighters also handled a single-vehicle rollover accident, Gray said. Firefighters arrived on W.Va. 16 at Jenkins Fork, just north of Fayetteville. They found a Jeep Grand Cherokee on its passenger side. An adult woman was already out of the vehicle. Whether or not she was injured was not reported.
