Man arrested with second-offense failure to register as sex offender

A Beckley man is in jail after being charged with failing to update his sex offender registry information — a charge he was previously convicted of in April.

Andrew Elliott Worthington, 29, of Beckley, is charged with two counts of second-offense failure to comply with the sex offender registry, said Cpl. M.K. Summers of the West Virginia State Police’s Beckley detachment. Worthington is being held in the Southern Regional Jail, in lieu of $100,000 bond set by Raleigh County Magistrate Steve Massie.

Summers said he came to Worthington’s home Monday to question him about possible sex offender registry violations. Worthington’s wife then drove up in a vehicle — registered to both her and Worthington — that was not in Worthington’s sex offender information.

Later, Summers said he discovered Worthington had not notified State Police about his being placed on probation. Worthington was convicted in April of not updating sex offender registry information.

Worthington could now face probation revocation, Summers said. Further charges against Worthington are possible, he added.
