Storms down trees, cause power outages

Amelia A. Pridemore
Register-Herald Reporter

Scattered thunderstorms struck Raleigh County Tuesday afternoon, downing trees and power lines and leaving some residents without power.

Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, downed trees and power lines were reported in the Coal River, Daniels and Sophia/Midway areas, according to the Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center. Power outages were reported in the Coal River Valley, particularly in Dry Creek and Naoma and near W.Va. 3. The number of affected households was unknown.

Power was expected to be restored between 8-10 p.m. Tuesday, the EOC said. As of 10 p.m. Tuesday, firefighters had left the scene, but the EOC had not been told if the power was back on.
