Beckley-Raleigh County Chamber of Commerce President Ellen Taylor says the chamber is assessing interest in forming a landlord’s association.
“The chamber is willing to sponsor a meeting of landlords to discuss the formation of an association, if there is sufficient interest,” Taylor said.
She said over 20 landlords have expressed interest in discussing the proposal.
“If you are a landlord, real estate investor, property owner, or property manager, or thinking about becoming one, then a landlord association could be your No. 1 stop for free help, property management and responsibility information, landlord and real estate news, landlord tenant laws, tax issues, and other information, as well as networking with fellow landlords and other real estate professionals,” Taylor said. “The association would become an educational tool for landlords.”
She said the goal of the association would be to provide landlords with the information, knowledge and resources one needs to succeed, such as news, tips, statistics, great advice and top-of-the-line services.
“The association could also help with vacant and dilapidated properties,” according to Taylor. “It could assist in making sure properties are kept clean, which is very beneficial to the community as well.”
Taylor says a good association does the legwork for its members by spending the time and energy researching issues important to them.
“They can put together connections to the services and resources that can help a landlord, real estate investor, property owner, or property manager make or save thousands of dollars each year,” Taylor said.
Those interested should contact the chamber at 252-7328.
If there is enough interest, Taylor says a meeting to discuss the formation of an association will be scheduled.
“There is a landlord’s association in Charleston and we would look at bringing someone here to talk with those interested about what a landlord’s association does for its members,” she said.
