Four hurt in Fayette County wrecks

Women seriously injured, authorities say

Amelia A. Pridemore

Four people were injured Friday in three Fayette County wrecks — one woman seriously, authorities said.

At 3:13 p.m., the Fayetteville and Oak Hill fire departments responded to a two-vehicle accident on U.S. 19 near the Appalachian Drive intersection, said Meredith Buskus, public information officer for the Fayetteville Fire Department. The wreck involving a Plymouth sedan and a tractor-trailer completely shut down the southbound lanes and traffic was rerouted through the Fayette Square shopping center.

A woman inside the Plymouth had to be extricated and sustained serious injuries, Buskus said. She was taken to Plateau Medical Center and later to a Charleston area hospital. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

Just as that accident was being cleared around 4:20 p.m., Fayetteville firefighters responded to another two-vehicle wreck on W.Va. 16, past Jenkins Fork, Buskus said. W.Va. 16 was completely shut down for the cleanup.

The male driver of a 2003 Chevy 4500 and two women in a Chrysler convertible were all taken to Plateau Medical Center, Buskus said. All sustained minor injuries.

Fayetteville firefighters also responded to another wreck on W.Va. 16 in Jenkins Fork, Buskus noted.

A 2004 Chevy Blazer fish-tailed, went into the other side of the road and rolled onto its side. Both occupants of the vehicle, an adult woman and a female child, were out of the vehicle by the time firefighters arrived. Neither was taken to a hospital.
