Summers County-ARH resumes long-term care

Long-term care patients formerly residing at a Hinton hospital have the option to return, Appalachian Healthcare officials said Friday.

Summers County-ARH will begin re-admitting some of the long-term care residents who were transferred to other nearby facilities last month during a strike by the United Steelworkers that ended April 25.

“We will begin accepting these long-term care patients back into the unit, which is located on the third floor of Summers County-ARH, beginning Monday,” said Rocco Massey, interim Community CEO for Summers County-ARH. “We also are currently working with these residents and their families to assist them in making the return a smooth transition.”

Massey said patients were moved out of the facility during the strike to ensure their safety and comfort.

“Making patient care and safety our top priority, we transferred some residents during the month of April due to the strike,” Massey said. “It is our hope that residents who wish to return will come back, and we sincerely regret that they had to be transferred to other facilities temporarily during that time.”
