Mount Hope mayor re-elected

By Matthew Hill
Register-herald reporter

Mount Hope residents will be looking at two new faces among their municipal leaders following Tuesday’s election in the Fayette County town. Otherwise, it was a friendly day there for incumbents.

Steve Brown, Norville Ellison and Jack Sears were all re-elected to city council.

They will now be joined by newcomers Richard Smith and Ernest Wickline.

Wickline took Edith Bailey’s spot on the ticket. Bailey did not run for office this time around. Smith beat out incumbent Malcolm Parker by 11 votes.

Mayor Michael Martin held off a challenge by George Smith by 37 votes out of 421 cast in the contest. Kathleen Scott successfully fought to keep her post as recorder, defeating Mary Smith 228 votes to 182.
