Weekend power outages in the western portion of Fayette County won’t alter voting precincts for today’s primary election, according to county officials.
Charlotte Holly, Fayette County administrator, said that, as of mid-afternoon Monday, three precincts were still without power: No. 28 (Smithers), No. 29 (Falls View), and No. 45 (Powellton). She later said she’d been told power was restored at Smithers, but officials from Precinct No. 42 in Beards Fork had since indicated a lack of power service.
Holly said the contingency plan calls for emergency services director Steve Cruikshank to arrange for generators at the affected sites — provided power isn’t restored by today — so voters can cast their votes at their normal locale.
“Our plan is to go with the generators on site, because we didn’t want voters to have to move to another location,” said commission president Ken Eskew.
