Newspaper takes second in advertising awards

The Register-Herald won second place for general excellence in its division at the 2008 West Virginia Press Association Advertising Awards Contest. The Fayette Tribune was third in its division.
Results of the annual competition were announced Friday evening at a banquet at the Charleston Marriott to honor excellence in newspaper advertising sales and design.
Newspapers across the state compete in four circulation groups, two each for daily and weekly newspapers. The Register-Herald competes in Division 1, the largest of the four for papers with circulation of more than 20,000. The Tribune competes with the smaller weeklies in Division 4 with circulations under 4,000. The Montgomery Herald also competed in Division 4.
The ad contest has 19 categories. The overall awards for General Excellence are based on awards won in the basic categories.
The Register-Herald’s and The Fayette Tribune’s awards were for the following ads; the ad’s account representative is also listed.
- Best Small Ad Campaign, Division 4, 1st, The Fayette Tribune, What’s inside matters, Debbie Maxwell.
- Best Single B&W Ad 33 inches or Less, Division 1, 3rd, The Register-Herald, Feeling Crowded, Kim Maynor; 2nd, The Register-Herald, Getting It Straight, Paula Shrewsberry.
