Beckley police say a homeless man was seriously injured after being struck by a pickup truck Wednesday.
Around 10:15 a.m., a 77-year-old Shady Spring man was driving a 2000 Ford Ranger south on South Eisenhower Drive, Lt. Cheri Mullens said. Near the Wellspring Inn, formerly known as the Honey in the Rock Motel, a man apparently walked in front of the vehicle. The driver immediately tried to stop but could not in time.
The pedestrian was taken to Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital with injuries that appeared to be serious. The driver and his two passengers were not hurt.
Mullens said the man was identified as homeless, and his age and hometown were unknown. His identity was being withheld pending location and notification of his next-of-kin.
The incident remains under investigation by Patrolman Brian Fuller.
