Greenbrier commission hires new 911 director

LEWISBURG — The Greenbrier County Commission confirmed Tuesday the hiring of Dan Edwards as the county’s new 911 director.

Edwards, of Lewisburg, replaces former director Rusty Harvey, who resigned about six months ago due to a disability, Commissioner Brad Tuckwiller said.

Edwards retired from the federal prison system in 1999 after serving as an associate warden with the Federal Women’s Prison at Alderson and a federal prison in Elkton, Ohio. His yearly salary is $45,000.

“There was a field of 26 applicants and the 911 Advisory Board was pleased with the quality of all of them,” Tuckwiller said. “But after two interviews, Mr. Edwards rose to the top.”

Edwards, 58, is “very involved” in the Metho-dist Church and also the president-elect of the Lewisburg Rotary Club. He’s also “excited and enthused” about his new job.

“We have a good staff and the support of the county commission. We will be developing organization and planning long-range plans,” Edwards said Tuesday. “Our goal is to make sure that we dispatch the appropriate agency as soon as possible to the right place and to make a difference in the lives of those who depend upon us.”
