Numerous firefighters battled a Raleigh County brush fire Saturday that authorities said burned 50 to 100 acres.
The fire near Stoots Road in Eccles was reported around 1:45 p.m., according to information from the Raleigh County Emergency Operations Center. As of early Saturday afternoon, 50 to 100 acres had reportedly burned. Several structures were endangered, but that section of the fire was under control.
However, the blaze was spreading elsewhere, the EOC said.
As of Saturday evening, the fire was still burning, the EOC said.
Crews from the Trap Hill, Lester, Mabscott and Coal River volunteer fire departments were at the scene Saturday afternoon, the EOC said. Authorities had also contacted the state Division of Forestry.
