Woman sent to hospital after Glade Springs fire

— Firefighters battled a blaze at a Glade Springs Resort townhouse building Friday afternoon that sent one woman to a hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.
The Beaver Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the fire on Club Circle Drive, a street located directly in front of the Glade clubhouse, said B.J. Oakes, public information officer for the department. Initially, firefighters were told only heavy smoke and no flames were visible at the row of three townhouses.
But after the first fire engine arrived on scene, flames were coming out of the building’s roof, Oakes said. The fire, which had originated in the middle townhouse, spread to a second unit. Three other VFDs — Bradley-Prosperity, Mabscott and Ghent — were called for mutual aid.
One woman was transported after she complained of smoke inhalation. Whether she was a townhouse resident was unknown. All residents had exited the building before firefighters arrived.
Glade Springs security officers were also called for crowd control, Oakes said, adding that several people, apparently curious onlookers, were driving by to see what was happening.
The fire was under control by around 4 p.m., Oakes said.
The amount of damage was undetermined, Oakes said. State fire marshals were investigating the cause of the fire.
