Nicholas County drug sweep nets 23 alleged offenders, police say

FROM STAFF REPORTS

Authorities executed 31 arrest warrants and nabbed 23 of 27 alleged offenders for whom they were searching during a drug sweep Tuesday in Nicholas County.

The roundup was a joint effort of the State Police, Nicholas County Sheriff’s Department, Summersville Police Department and the Central West Virginia Drug Task Force.

Those arrested, according to State Police Sgt. C.D. Kelly, face charges ranging from delivery of narcotics to exceeding the purchase limit of ephedrine, commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine.

Kelly said the limit on ephedrine purchases is three boxes per month. When purchasing the medicine, individuals must produce identification. Information on the purchases, Kelly said, is then sent to and recorded by the state Board of Pharmacy.

Kelly said suspects are being sought in an additional 21 arrest warrants in Clay and Braxton counties.
