T.J. Maxx store to open Sunday

Due to a technical error, an advertisement in the Wednesday edition of The Register-Herald announcing the grand opening of the new T.J. Maxx store in the Beckley Crossing shopping center mistakenly appeared a few days early.

“We regret this error occurred and apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused,” said Chuck Jessup, the newspaper’s advertising director.

Wednesday’s inadvertent advertisement which read, “starts today,” was supposed to be published Sunday, March 30, the actual date of the grand opening of the store.

“We had quite a few people show up at the store and received numerous telephone calls,” said John Nabors, Beckley store manager. “It made us feel very welcome that so many people were that anxious for us to be open.”

T.J. Maxx, the nation’s largest off-price retailer, will be giving a reusable shopping bag to its first 200 customers at Sunday’s grand opening.

The 28,500-square-foot store will add about 75 full- and part-time jobs to the local economy, company officials said.

“With the addition of the Beckley store, T.J. Maxx is meeting customer demand for quality, brand name merchandise,” company president Ernie Herrman said. “Our newest store will offer shoppers the designer names they know and trust at prices well below department stores.”

T.J. Maxx carries apparel for women, men and children, as well as giftware, domestics and bath and body products. It also offers accessories, including jewelry, ladies’ shoes, handbags, belts and luggage.

The store will also have an educational toy and book department that sells arts and crafts, games, science kits and puzzles.

“Private dressing rooms, a wide variety of gift cards and a liberal return policy are some of T.J. Maxx’s customer conveniences,” Nabors added. “And each week the store will receive more than 10,000 new items, ensuring a continual flow of fresh merchandise.”

Grand opening hours Sunday are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., while regular store hours will be 9:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
