Former trooper files for sheriff

James W. “Jim” Childers has filed for the office of sheriff of Greenbrier County on the Republican ticket.
From 1969 to 1995, Childers served with the State Police, becoming district commander/first sergeant.
He was later appointed as Greenbrier County supervisor for the state Division of Highways and served from May 1997 until July 2003, then was assigned to the five-county District 9 in heavy construction until November 2007.
Childers said is seeking the office of sheriff because “we believe we can make difference for the people of Greenbrier County and feel we have a lot to offer and can a make a positive change for the better of the sheriff’s department and the people we serve.”
Childers has a degree from Bluefield State College/Marshall University in criminal justice.
