Man arrested for arson

— A 20-year-old Pineville man has been arrested in connection with two separate fires at a Hedge Street residence, city police said.
Ronald Jerome Martin was charged with one count of first-degree arson and one count of fourth-degree arson, according to Police Chief Roger Snow.
The first attempted fire came on Jan. 20, but the fire was extinguished without the assistance of the fire department, Snow said.
The second attempt came Jan. 23, when the Pineville Volunteer Fire Department had to be summoned to put out the blaze, Snow explained.
During both attempts, the house was occupied by its elderly owner, Snow said. Robbie Bailey, an assistant state fire marshal, is assisting with the continuing investigation.
Martin remained at Southern Regional Jail Tuesday on $15,000 bond.
