About 800 households were without power in Nicholas County after heavy rains damaged power lines, authorities said Friday.
Power was lost in the Keslers Cross Lanes and Drennen areas around 1 p.m. Friday, according to the Nicholas County Emergency Operations Center. The estimated 800 outages were mostly along W.Va. 39, going west from Summersville, and along W.Va. 129/Summersville Lake Road.
No estimated restoration time was available Friday night, the EOC said. Several lines were downed after heavy rain swept through the area.
One evacuation shelter had been set up at the Keslers Cross Lanes Fire Department, located along W.Va. 129, the EOC said. No one was known to have moved into the shelter, but firefighters had checked on known disabled and “shut-in” residents.
Residents needing assistance are urged to call the fire department at 872-6999 or Chief Randy Tucker at 872-3079, the EOC said.
