The news media would have us believe that a majority of Americans favor more gun control. I can’t believe this because 99 percent of people I talk to are against any further limits on gun rights.
We are supposed to be a nation ruled by laws. The supreme law of the land in my opinion is the Constitution. Its Second Amendment says the right to bear arms shall not be infringed. One definition of infringe is to encroach upon in a way that violates the law or another’s rights.
The Supreme Court has ruled the Second Amendment affirms the right of individuals to keep and bear arms. Period. Law of the land. If Congress or the president wants to change gun laws, let them do it legally by amending the Constitution. Stop the illegal actions of Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and executive orders.
Anti-gun groups need to accept that there is evil in the world. Bad things happen to good people. Allowing ourselves to be disarmed and prey for a totalitarian government in the future, or a criminal thug, is not the answer. More laws are not the answer.
We need the right to protect ourselves. Gains in gun rights such as conceal carry permits can’t be lost when statistics prove this drives violent crime rates down.
If someone is breaking into your home at night, I can say without reservation, the police will not arrive in time to save you. I can make that statement as a former deputy sheriff. The system is simply not structured for this. Don’t believe me? Ask someone who has called 911 in an emergency and find out what the response time was or if an officer even responded.
Criminals avoid armed confrontations. When Australia banned firearms, home invasions had not been a significant problem, but after, they became over 21 percent of crime.
Look at the statistics on gun violence and remember the old saying. Liars figure but figures don’t lie. Cities that have the most severe gun restrictions have the most gun crime.
