Beckley officers go
above and beyond
On Sunday, Aug. 18, three officers of the Beckley Police Department came to the rescue of a young lady and her three small children.
While operating her van on Robert C. Byrd Drive near the Veteran’s Hospital, she had a flat tire and was barely able to get her vehicle off of the roadway.
Cpl. Frank Priddy, Cpl. Jamie Wilhite and Cpl. Justin Hudnall came to her rescue.
They stood out in the pouring rain to direct traffic around the vehicle, and Wilhite even got on his stomach on the wet ground to get the spare tire out from underneath the vehicle.
They stayed with this young lady and her three small children and even changed the flat tire.
These officers went above and beyond the call of duty and should be commended for their kindness and service.
I wasn’t able to thank them at the time, but I want them to know how much their kindness meant to all involved.
They did not hesitate to stop and get out in the nasty weather conditions to help someone in need.
The City of Beckley Police Department should be proud to count these fine men among its officers.
Also, on Aug. 2, my granddaughter witnessed an unknown police officer in an unmarked black Dodge Charger save two dogs from being hit and killed on the same roadway.
This officer stood on the side of the busy road keeping the two frightened dogs out of traffic until they could be rescued.
When most people would have looked the other way and kept going, this officer stopped and kept two innocent dogs from being struck and killed.
We should all be proud to call these fine men our police officers.
They are not only great officers, but also great people who go out of their way to help whenever they are needed.
On behalf of myself and my family, thank you for all that you do.
