Thoughts to share about a few issues

Well, my 30-day waiting period is up and I’ve had a month to prepare my thoughts, so here goes ...

First of all, I do not base my beliefs on any elected official’s opinion. There are reasons why they are called politicians. Poli means many, and I’m sure most everyone knows what a tick is.

We all need to realize that our own feelings of self-worth and our opinions have no validity unless we are standing firmly on the truth. God’s word is the truth; if your opinion doesn’t agree with His word, then you are wrong.

All of the politicians in the world could proclaim with megaphones that abortion is legal. God’s word would call them all liars. When a child is conceived in the womb, it is a living child, even in cases of incest and rape. So to kill that baby in the womb is, by all definition, murder.

God said he knew Jeremiah before he was formed in the belly, so this must be true for all of us. If so, then we are people before conception in God’s eyes. God also said if you harm one of these little ones, you might as well tie a millstone around your neck and jump in the sea.

So let’s remember the old working man adage, payday is coming.

Now for gun control. My idea for gun control is the steady use of both hands. In 2010 there were 10,400 deaths by guns in the USA. Over 50 percent of them were criminal on criminal and lots of the others were police on criminal.

But in that same year, almost 13,000 men, women and children were killed by drunk drivers. Why don’t we ban booze? I haven’t heard our leaders screaming about finding a solution for this huge problem.

Maybe we should ban automobiles or sue Ford or GM for allowing drunks to drive their product. Wait a minute, I have an idea, let’s turn this problem over to Mine Safety and Health Administration; they have done a terrific job of controlling mine accidents and have entirely wiped out black lung.

And, no, I do not watch ABC news. It would be an insult to my intelligence.
