Proof does exist that the Bible is right

I take issue with Gator Williams’ statement: “Science exists to prove the Bible to be right, but can’t.”

I want him to know that very much proof exists that the Bible is right besides that provided by science. Where is it? Right in the Bible itself!

I have in my possession a 27-page booklet that aptly describes the many ways the Bible shows itself to be right. In “You Can Trust the Bible” John MacArthur, pastor-teacher of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, Calif., describes five basic areas that help prove the authenticity of the Bible: (1) Experience. (2) Science. (3) Miracles. (4) Prophecy and (5) The life of Christ.

I want to focus on just the area of prophecy. There are over 2,000 predictive prophesies in the Old Testament alone, and I understand that all that were to be filled by now have been fulfilled exactly.

The Bible says in 2 Timothy 3:16 that all scripture is inspired by God. I understand that God used about 40 different men to write the 66 books of the Bible. Now, there is no way that those 40 men could have predicted all those prophecies that were fulfilled exactly without the inspiration of an omniscient, omnipotent God, the One who claims to be Creator of the universe.

The next three paragraphs are from page 13 of John MacArthur’s booklet:

“Peter Stoner, a scientist in the area of mathematical probabilities, said in his book ‘Science Speaks’ that if we take just eight of the Old Testament prophecies Christ fulfilled, we find that the probability of their coming to pass is one in 1,017. He illustrates the staggering amount this way:

“We take 1,017 silver dollars and lay them on the face of Texas. They will cover all of the state 2 feet deep. Now mark one of these silver dollars and stir the whole mass thoroughly. Blindfold a man and tell him he must pick up one silver dollar. What chance would he have of getting the right one? Just the same chance that the prophets would have had of writing these eight prophecies and having them come true in any one man.” (Chicago: Moody, 1963), 100-107)

And Jesus fulfilled hundreds more than just eight prophecies!

If I can find Gator Williams’ address, I will send him a copy of John MacArthur’s booklet.
