Veterans should vote for Earl Ray Tomblin
I have been working on veterans’ legislation for several years, and there has been one person I could always depend on to support veterans’ legislation and that is Gov. Tomblin.
When Tomblin was the president of the Senate, he helped us get the veterans nursing home at the Clarksburg VA Medical Center passed. He helped us get the Widows Grave Marker bill passed; he put his full support for the veterans cemetery and got it passed. He helped us get the taxes on military retirees greatly reduced, which exempted 80 percent of the military retirees from paying state taxes on their retirements.
He also worked with Gen. Tackett to pass an education bill for our National Guard members so they could go to college while they served.
The first thing he did after being elected governor was to introduce legislation to make the Division of Veterans Affairs the Department of Veterans Assistance. This action put the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Assistance at the table with the other heads of government agencies so the veterans now have direct input to the governor on veterans’ issues.
Tomblin has now indicated that he supports the building of a 120-bed state veterans nursing home to be located at the Beckley VA Medical Center.
Gov. Tomblin has a proven track record when it comes to supporting the veterans of our state. It is time for us to step up and support Tomblin this November. We must keep him as our governor because there is still work to do for our veterans and he has demonstrated his full and complete support for us.
I ask each and every veteran in West Virginia to vote for Gov. Tomblin because he always votes for us.

I am very pleased that lawmakers did not pass the stupid “fireworks” law. I think Daniel Hall, D-Wyoming, should be happy he did not push this and he might rethink his feelings on it for next year. The majority of citizens care more about the economy and a job to buy food, not stupid items like fireworks.
