I agree 100 percent with Sheriff Tanner
I have been reading all of the articles about the statements made by Sheriff Tanner and just sitting back. But I have to speak up. In my opinion he is one of the finest people in our county.
On April 5, 2004, my son, my only child, Jonathan Cody Daniel, took my dad’s deer rifle and committed suicide in my parents’ back yard. My parents and I were devastated, of course.
Never have I seen anyone take so much pain to calm my mother down as Mr. Tanner did. When a friend, Larry McNeely, came to my home and took me to my parents, Mr. Tanner was kneeling down in front of my mother talking to her and my dad. He was wonderful, so calm and caring. I was so glad that he was there as my sisters were in Nashville to watch our cousin, Jennifer Hicks, perform on Nashville Star and my ex was gone to Ohio.
My brother-in-law and I and my 6-year-old grandson were the only ones there. I saw that Mr. Tanner had my parents in hand and was able to go comfort my grandson.
To be honest, most of that day is a blur to me. But the true care that Steve Tanner took with my aged parents was visible to everyone there. All of my cousins and friends who came to comfort us later told me that they had never seen such a caring law officer. But then he was raised by a truly fine couple. I had met his father several times before and I also had the great pleasure of meeting his lovely mother when she got a pet goat off of me.
But to get back to everyone who takes offense at his statement on gun control, I heartily agree with him 100 percent. Guns don’t kill people after all; bad people use guns to kill people.

Americans can’t have guns for Obama to rule
The liberal government wants to enforce strict gun laws on law-abiding citizens. They are the same people who could not control the guns going into Mexico. They could not protect our embassy in Benghazi, they cannot control the guns in Chicago, they cannot protect our borders or control illegal immigrants or drugs coming into this country, but they can tell legal gun owners how many shells they can have in a gun and what kind of peashooters we can own legally.
They will open up jobs for illegal gun-running into this country from other countries, along with the drugs they cannot control. Drug runners will have assault guns along with criminals, but the law-abiding people of this country are the ones being controlled.
Go after the problem! The videos games that numb the brains of our kids, the violent movies they say do not affect children and the mind-altering drugs that the FDA and doctors are pushing on our kids. Doctors should list all the people they have on these mind-altering drugs to the government, and then regulate them since most of the mass shootings are done by people on these drugs.
Advertisers spend $3.5 million for a 30-second ad during the Super Bowl to convince you to buy their product. Would not violent movies and video games have the same affect on our kids minds by turning some of them into killers, confusing their mind to what is real or a video.
Obama said in his State of the Union speech, “In the two months since Newtown, more than a thousand birthdays, graduations and anniversaries have been stolen from our lives by a bullet from a gun.” I say also that nearly 4,000 a day are lost to abortionist’s cruel tools!
Obama wants to be a ruler or dictator, and he knows to do so, he can not have the American people armed.
I agree 100 percent with Sheriff Tanner
