Fact checking goes down the rabbit hole
It’s funny how when you start fact checking a subject, it’s like going down the proverbial rabbit hole. How far can you go?
I started out asking a simple question, but no one could or would answer it. I asked my bank if my safety deposit box could be accessed during a time of martial law or national emergency or should the bank fail. I was asked why I wanted to know!
I was referred to the FDIC question line, which I called but the man couldn’t or wouldn’t answer my question. He transferred me to a comptroller who said I would have to submit a complaint form to ask a question and that it might be answered in 20 to 30 days. Hmm.
So then I find that in 2012 the U.S. 7th Circuit Court of Appeals basically ruled that any money you put into a bank now belongs to that bank, and should something happen to your money, the FDIC will take care of it.
Then I discover a process by the U.S. Government called an NSL (National Security Letter). This came about from the Patriot Act, 18 U.S.C. 2709 section 505. A National Security Letter was supposedly issued to banks by the Department of Homeland Security that told banks DHS now had the power to examine deposit boxes without a warrant and confiscate anything deemed as contraband, i.e., gold, silver, cash, guns.
Now to be fair, it’s not easy to verify that because included in the letter was a threat to the banks if they revealed it. However, I did verify that the FBI had issued over 300,000 NSLs in the past, so they do exist.
Now in the process of digging deeper into the rabbit hole, I find that a 1948 law prohibiting the U.S. from using propaganda against American citizens was overturned by a new law allowing said propaganda. This was included in the 2013 renewal of the National Defense Authorization Act in section 1021 (b) (2). Also see the Smith-Mundt Act (H.R.5736).
So now our government can legally lie to us. Samuel Adams was quoted as saying, “It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate tireless minority keen to set brush fires in the people’s minds.”
A study paper supposedly from DHS acknowledges that once dissent breaches the 10 percent threshold of the population, it cannot be contained. When you look at current poll numbers of disapproval with our government, I believe the breaching of a 10 percent threshold has already occurred.
