Uptown needs to be more tolerant

Just a thought, but if you want people going to Uptown Beckley to eat and drink and have fun then you have to call the dogs off.

Every local person in Beckley and surrounding areas knows that you don't have a couple beers and drive out of any place ... on the watch list. It has killed the late-night crowds and will continue to kill the party crowd.

I do not condone drinking and driving, but until you can drive anywhere in Beckley without fear of being pulled over for a traffic stop for being on a cell phone or a dead sticker I can promise you this — nothing uptown will work no matter how many parking spots you make.

Towns around the country with an entertainment district also have downtown hotels to stay at and also work with local police departments for a little bit of toleration.

Good luck. I would love to see it work, but in the current state of this town, sadly, it will not.
