I am sorry that it has taken me so long to reply to your editorial bemoaning the departure of Sen. Jay Rockefeller. The senator has been in the U.S. Senate for 30 years. During that time he has established ... (pardon me, I am trying to think of something). Oh, Yes!
1) He constantly voted against any pro-life legislation. He voted against banning partial birth abortion. He voted against defunding Planned Parenthood, our nation’s No. 1 abortion provider to which we the taxpayers provided $500 million last year. Planned Parenthood, located primarily in poor minority neighborhoods fulfilling their founder Margaret Sanger’s desire to decrease the population of the “undesirables and the feeble minded” (Her words not mine). Out-of-wedlock births are at an all-time high and going higher. Thereby destroying the basic building block of society — the family.
2 ) Health-wise, West Virginia ranks at the bottom of the United States and up at the top in obesity.
3) The drop-out rate at our schools is at an all-time high. Any students that do graduate must leave the state because there is no work for them here. The senator’s support of the Obama administration’s anti-coal agenda is leading to the closing of numerous mines throughout the state. The largest employer in most of our counties is the Board of Education.
4) Employers are finding it hard to find workers that will pass a pre-employment drug test.
Pardon me if I don’t shed a tear at our senator’s retirement. He should have retired a long, long time ago. With him gone, the only place for the state to go is up.
John F. Ziolkowski
