News sources affirm Hyde Amendment
Hilda Shorter’s letter in the March 2 Register-Herald stating I was inaccurate in my previous letter that the Hyde Amendment applies to the Affordable Care Act is an example of bad research.
It only took me a 30-second Internet search to come up with the facts from neutral legitimate news sources such as The Associated Press, Reuters, FactCheck.org, Wikipedia and many more websites.
The Hyde act was in the version of Obamacare passed by the House of Representatives in the form of the Stupak-Pitt amendment and was left out of the Senate-passed version. To get Rep. Bart Stupak’s vote and others on the final bill, President Obama applied the Hyde Amendment to the Affordable Care Act by Executive Order 13535 on March 24, 2010.
Abortions are only granted under Obamacare if the insurer is paying his premiums out of his own personal funds. The Affordable Care Act specifically states that private insurance plans sold through exchanges must keep private funds paid by individual account holders separate from federal funds so federal funds cannot be used for abortions.
