Generous couple deserves our thanks
The owners, Tom and Sherry Syner of the Syner Foundation, who operate local television stations Channels 4 and 17, and also local radio stations, have stepped forward now for a third time to assist the citizens of our area who are facing crisis and are in need.
They came through for the area during the terrible derecho storm in June and superstorm Sandy in October by broadcasting on their radio stations helpful and vital information as to where and how needed help could be obtained such as shelter, food, water, ice, emergency assistance, when power was expected to be restored, and much, much more, as such information became available.
Well, they have come forward once again for our communities and for our area. This week through Saturday, with live TV coverage, they have embarked on an unselfish drive that will cover two great needs. One is that all of our local food banks are in trouble. Their stocks and supplies are at extremely low levels and can not fill the critical need that we are all aware of. Many of our people are hungry.
The second important need is for donations of toys, preferably new toys, to provide a happy Christmas for at least 3,000 known children in the New Haven area who would otherwise be left out on Christmas morning.
This food and toy drive began broadcasting from the Crew Center located across the street from the Fayette County Courthouse in downtown Fayetteville. They have invited and encouraged everyone who is able to drop off non-perishable canned and packaged food, as well as toys, at that location. This will continue through Saturday, culminating with a Christmas parade. Your participation is greatly needed.
To add a bit of fun to the drive, periodically some prominent government officials and local notable personalities are hoisted high in the air on a platform by a machine. They are held hostage there until the next donor arrives with food or toys, or both.
We have participated in this drive and that participation has its own rewards. Therefore, you are encouraged to come out and give as often and as much as you can. You will be blessed and our neighbors in need will be blessed.
The Syners are to be given a big thanks and well deserved praise for providing this vehicle to fill these needs and to let us share in this event. We are fortunate to have them serving our area in so many ways. They have done it again.
