GOP thanks voters in Raleigh County

Thank you, Raleigh County.

On behalf of the Raleigh County Republican Executive Committee and our Republican officeholders, I would like to sincerely thank the voters of Raleigh County.

For the first time since 1928, you have chosen two Republicans to represent you on the county commission, Dave Tolliver and Linda Epling. You re-elected Linda Sumner and John O’Neal to the House of Delegates and you elected two more Republicans, Roy Cooper and Lynne Arvon to the House. Over 17,000 of you overwhelmingly re-elected Steve Massie for magistrate.

The recent election was truly a historic event for all of West Virginia, and particularly the counties of Raleigh, Mercer, Wyoming, Summers, Greenbrier, and Monroe. In Mercer County, District 27 (that now includes Flat Top Lake), Republicans Marty Gearhart, John Shott and Joe Ellington won all the seats. You elected Republicans to all but one seat in the area’s House of Delegate membership. For the first time since 1928, West Virginia has a Republican attorney general.

The Raleigh County Republican Executive Committee and Party recognize that the voters have given us a great responsibility and opportunity to represent all the citizens in southern West Virginia. We will justify your trust in us by increasing accountability, transparency, and competency in state and local government.

A lot has been said about the causes and effects of redistricting during the election and after. The truth is that the Democratic leadership in Raleigh County and at the state level created the plan and forced it through the Legislature without a single Republican vote. The plan was created solely by Democrats, for the exclusive benefit of the Democrat Party and passed only by Democrats.

It is the height of hypocrisy and irony that some in the Democratic Party are complaining about the results. While their plan unwittingly played a part in the historic success of local Republican parties, in the end it was the voters of southern West Virginia that decided who they wanted to represent them.

Thank you Raleigh County and southern West Virginia!
