Book store in Beaver offers large selection

I am writing in response to “Lack of books is why children fail in school.” I agree with Ms. Perry that books are the cornerstone of education. Technology has value and a place in society, but should not take the place of reading and using imagination to be successful in life.

It is important for parents to read to their children and be role models by reading themselves.

The writer commented that there are no bookstores in Beckley. I know there are no chain bookstores in Raleigh County, however, I own a new and used book store in Beaver, Coffee Beans & Books, located in the School of Harmony complex. While I know that many people do not want to travel an extra 10 minutes to our area, I think that it is worth the time to create excitement in a child about reading books.

We have a large selection of new and used books in a warm, inviting atmosphere. We also have a monthly book club for kids during which I read to the children and do a craft with them. I have done this for three years and we usually have three to six children attend the book club.

There are outlets for readers in this area if they are so inclined to spend the time and make the effort.

Books will never go out of style and the battery will never be dead. Open a book today and read for the fun of it! Check out your local independent bookstores and libraries to share the gift of reading today.
